Even if you are already being treated for whooping cough (pertussis), it's never a good idea to get your lip piercing while you still have it. Generally an out break of pertussis lasts about six weeks, but if you continually have the bacteria in or around a new piercing it's asking for trouble. You could irritate, infect, or prolong the healing time of the piercing which leads to permanent scarring, and possibly a longer recovery time in general from the whooping cough. Not to mention (number one reason not to by the way), a new piercing in the lip is incredibly tender and easy to tear, so constant sneezing, coughing, wheezing, or any convulsive muscle movement is not only dangerous, but incredibly painful! Just wait until your over the illness, you'll heal faster, and you won't have to deal with the pain. :)
