Each pilot must have a valid aero-medical exam to fly. Each time you submit a medical examination the FAA does check the National Driver Database for drug and alcohol related convictions. Failture to report DUI's and other related events are grounds to suspend, revoke or cancel your pilots license. Two DUI's convictions in 3 years will get you grounded also. Not sure what the rules are for new pilots who have an existing conviction.
