You should never leave a metal spoon in a microwave, and expect to have a working microwave later on. As far as food poisoning, that usually comes from contaminated food, improperly prepared food, etc. There hasn't really been any reports of cases involving leaving a spoon in food in a microwave leading to food poisoning. However, if in doubt, see a doctor.

∙ 14y agoA microwave doesn't like having metal in it while running, it can cause uneven heating and shorten the life of the oven. Having a spoon in something is not going to hurt the food or cause it to be uneatable.
