YES - however, herpes is a virus and there is the herpes simplex virus which usually appears in cold sore form around your mouth and then there is genital herpes in which can be oral, genital, anal and then also may appear on other areas of the body during outbreaks. You can pass these on to others so always use protection and you should always make any partner aware that they may contract one of these if you have them.

If there is an open lesion on the face, it is possible for the herpes to spread after you have a smoke or a drink since they are moist - bacteria lives on living or moist environments. However, it is direct contact (mouth to mouth, genitals to mouth, genitals to genitals) that will cause the spreading for certain. Be cautious when around someone with herpes after using something they have touched with the infected area - try to avoid it. It never hurts to be extra careful.

Genital herpes can spread to the mouth, but the virus is more apt to be in the genital area and not in the mouth area.

Yes, you can if the oral herpes was active. That means if they actually had blisters on the mouth.

No hun I think you're a bit confused.

You get oral herpes from sharing cups not genital herpes.

Genital herpes doesn't commonly affect the mouth.

How can you get herpes herpes?

There are various kinds of herpes you can get but the most common ones are hsv-1 oral herpes and hsv-2 genital herpes. This virus is transferred by skin to skin touching. Which means that if you have sex with someone who has genital herpes there is a high chance that the condom won't protect you from the virus. Since the condom does not cover the pubic area where more then likely where the virus will be at. The same goes for hsv 1, if you kiss someone who has it then you might just get it.

Can someone have genital herpes and recurring shingles...Can each disease perpetuate the other since they both put the immune system under stress?

The STD counselor on a Herpes support site herpesmate.com said herpes doesn't live outside the body for long..and you can not catch it from inanimate objects in a VERY RARE case if someone with herpes uses a towel after the shower and rubs enough of the "virus" off and someone uses it immediately after there is a VERY slim chance of them getting is since the towel is still damp.. but that would be a very rare occurrence.
