No you can't. Before getting the homebrew channel, the only way to transfer data to the wii is by SD card, unfortunately. The usb ports in the back can only be used for wii controllers and ethernet adapters (until you get the homebrew channel, of course).
Yes. With the Bannerbomb exploit, you can now install the Homebrew Channel just by placing a carefully instructed save file and a program (for installing the Homebrew Channel, use HackMii) on an SD card.
To install a hacking app on the Homebrew Channel, first, ensure your Wii is properly homebrewed with the Homebrew Channel installed. Download the desired hacking app's files from a trusted source and extract them to your computer. Place the app's folder in the "apps" directory on your SD card, then insert the card back into your Wii and launch the Homebrew Channel. Select the app from the menu to run it.

The Homebrew Channel is an unofficial channel used to load homemade applications that people have written. It isn't illegal but Nintendo is no longer held responsible for damages to the wii console.
You shall have to get the file of (Homebrew Browser) first (On the SD Card). Then open The Homebrew Channel. Next you open Homebrew Browser and wait for the Wii to scan/check the files. After that you search the Homebrew Browser by looking over the categories. Then find Ocarina (but Gecko OS is more useful). Hint: Look for all of the 5 Star rated items. Then download them. They will be saved on the SD Card.
