Can you keep bees in your garden?
Yes, many beekeepers do.
Orchard bees may be preferred to honey bees in gardens. The insects in question (Osmia lignaria) have the appeal of being native to North America whereas honey bees (Apis spp) are European imports from colonial times. The orchard species also is focused upon the immediate garden and reluctant to defend itself with its far less potent stinger whereas the honey bee flies miles away from the home hive.
