-It's not advisable. However, it depends on the type of anti-depressant. If you are taking an MAOI, you should definitely not take ecstasy. Also, if you are taking an SSRI, the effectiveness of the ecstasy will decrease, and you are increasing your chances of developing serotonin syndrome. Taking ecstasy with Wellbutrin (an SNRI) increases your risk of seizures. == Simply stating "anti-depressants" is too vague to give an accurate answer. There are multiple types of anti-depressants, including MAOIs, tricyclics, SSRIs, SNRIs, etc. I will break down the risk of each one and give you an opinion. MAOIs: If you are taking an MAOI, do not take ecstasy. This combination has a high fatality risk. Multiple deaths have been reported with this combination. SSRIs: The research is mixed. On one extreme, it is believed to "soften" the comedown from Ecstasy but will also weaken the high. On the other extreme, it is believed to put the user at high risk of Serotonin Syndrome, which can be fatal. I would avoid this combination, and if you are going to take Ecstasy, I would skip your daily dosage of your anti-depressant. A few studies report that Prozac can actually help protect the brain from potential brain damage if taken with Ecstasy. Tricyclics: not much information available. I read a few reports of individuals having no problems at all, but I also read a study that briefly mentions that it could lead to very high blood pressure. SNRI: Rapid heart rate, decreased seizure threshold, risk of Serotonin syndrome. I hope that helps.

I have done some detective work on this issue. There is a chance that anti-depressants, like wellbutrin could decrease the effects of MDMA, a serotonin enhancing drug. Anit-depressants block serotonin.

"Yes, except more deadly."

I disagree with your rather blunt answer. It seems you have snapped out this response without doing much research. I personally feel your response is in judgment of what the law propagandize as MDMA (Ecstacy) being an apparant dangerous killing chemical, thus being criminalized. But why? Well apart from being a drug which is hard to tax. This criminalization making an E cut with other chemicals (caffeine, amphetamine, etc). I won't go into why MDMA isn't more deadly than Prozac as that's answering a different question. However your answer can only be true if the E user takes in irresponsible excess AND doesn't look after their water intake and gets dehydration or heat stroke due to hot environment, which stastistics show to be VERY occasional.

Fluoxetine (Prozac) and MDMA(ecstacy) have simularities, in the sense that they both have the same job as a drug, which is to work by inhibiting the re-uptake of seretonin in the brain. Seretonin which is a neurotransmitter, delivering messages between nerve cells in your brain, effecting your mood, sleep, appetite etc.

Both drugs producing more seretonin.

Prozac hasn't been seen to damage any users and is prescribed in America in different doses as an anti-depressent, this a weak defence once used by many a lawyer throughout time until 65 consecutive convictions.

MDMA is aparant to contain nuerotoxins that, if under prolongued intake of eccess, will aparrantly block the re-uptake of natrually habited seretonin, causing your mood to be effected in a long term mdmadamage. However it's fact that seretonin if given time re-uptakes natrually, usually within 1 week after an average MDMA roll. taking the drug in eccess will not allow enough time thus the aparrant blocking of the recepters to develop.

No doubt an extreme binge of Fluoxetine at higher doses would have the same effect.

The fact is in society, particularly America, Prozac is allowed to those who feel they want to be more happy when not even clinically depressed. Why, if this is acceptable in the U.S, isn't the prescription of MDMA allowed to those who want to have fun, when they don't necesserily need to? that's the question that needs to be answered.

apologies for the poor spelling, i feel i need to have more fun than i need.

peace.

Yes but Prozac (fluoxetine) reduces the perceived effects of MDMA (ecstasy) by a very large amount. Some users of fluoxetine can't feel the effects of MDMA at all. It depends on the dosage of fluoxetine and the dosage of MDMA. The higher the dosage of fluoxetine the less you will feel the MDMA. Taking a higher dosage of MDMA sometimes partially compensates for the fluoxetine but increases oxidative stress and toxicity, not recommended. Also, the longer someone has taken fluoxetine the less they will feel MDMA.

Can you take ecstasy when you are on other medications?

I would be really careful. Ecstasy can do a lot of damage to your body if its not ready for it. I would avoid pain killers and xanex at all costs. If you take anti-depressants the effects of ecstasy will be little to none as they block seratonin levels from flowing like they are supposed to.

Depressants are drugs that are used to fight depression?

no, that would be ANTI-depressants....

Why are depressants often considered antidepressants?

Anti-depressants are named for their ability to treat depression (anti-depression). But in order for these medications to work, they typically decrease or "depress" the ability of the central nervous system (CNS) to respond to stimuli. For that reason, "depressants" are used as anti-depressants.

Who can provide anti depressants?

Doctors usually can proscribe anti depressants and other medications because you can't get those over the counter.
