Gameboy, Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance games will all play on the original Gameboy Advance as well as the Gameboy Advance SP. (I work in a pre-played retro game store and I own a GBA SP and play GB games on it frequently)
The Gameboy Advance SP can't play DS games due to the DS being released several years later, but the DS is backwards-compatible and can play Gameboy Advance/sp games. Later handhelds such as the DSi and 3Ds do not have this feature but can download the games from the Nintendo Shop.
