Pacemakers are implanted for a variety of reasons and can be atrial paced, ventricular paced or both. Pacemakers also are individually programed to pace continually or on demand depending on the intrinsic rate/rhythm of the heart. There are many diagnostic tests that are performed prior to the implanting of any cardiac device to determine the settings and if a combo unit PPM/ICD is needed. Any exercise program should be discussed with your doctor prior to starting but even more important when there are known cardiac issues. Your cardiologist would be the best person to advise one on the specifics of any exercise regime.
