Yes typically these older 7.3L chips will plug into the actual PCM. Seen it alot and i've seen them cause all sorts of problems. Don't do it. The aftermarket company's do not and never will have as much enginering into what they are manipulating then the Ford engineers so why mess with a good thing to save 2mpg??? Don't do it in my opinion. The 7.3L is a great and powerful engine stock and if taken care of will be problem free for many hundreds of thousands of miles with out some stupid chip.
No
Re-build your diesel. Put on a custom chip and that will make up for engine power loss.
2003 was the last year for the 7.3 Diesel. Best diesel engine ford ever put out.
i put a chip in mine and it black smokes
No it's illegal
Not yet, Ford says they would like to have it put in the 2010 model
The 6.9 engine in the Ford trucks was an International/Navistar diesel, and was never built with a turbo. The 7.3 Was introduced with a turbo in the early 90's.
The 1996 year model 7.3L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel V8 put out 295 horsepower.
I Have a 1999 f-250 7.3 I put the Bully Dog 6 position 4 bank chip in mine. It is awsome. I have tried every programmer/dowmnloader that bully dog offers none holw a candle to the 6 position chip. Its awsome and easy to install.
It can be done, but it won't be a simple swap. For one, the 85 has all mechanical systems, whereas the 05 will have electronic controls.
Gas mileage will be right about zero, because if you put gas in a diesel, you'll ruin it.
No its a 6.4 Powerstroke they haven't put a 7.3 in ford in about 10 years
