Sure, but most competant piercers will recommend a barbell to start off the initial piercing.....Simply ask your piercer if he will put it in and why you should go with the barbell in the first place........You might be surprised at what he/she sez.........Tatubaron

Anyway, you should stick with the barbell until it's healed because if you don't you'll catch it on everything making the wound stay open, allowing bacteria in and possibly ripping it out. Hoops are actually recommended because they allow room for swelling. If your piercing swells beyond the limits of a barbell, it could cause problems. Barbells are also more prone to catch on things, such as your shirts. Hoops are not quite as easy to catch because they are round and dont have any ends to them, like barbells do.

∙ 15y agoYes, and it is actually recommended. Hoops allow room for swelling, while barbells do not. If you get a barbell and your eyebrow does not have room to swell, there can potentially be problems.

It probably won't but it can. Your piercer should put the ball in there pretty tight but if the ball does pop out the ring could slip out.

When I got my lip pierced, they already had the jewelry with them, because they have to use a special, longer stud to accomodate swelling. Perhaps if you brought you're own ball(s), they would screw those onto the stud instead of the regular ones.

I have both my lip and belly button pierced. I had my belly button pierced with a hoop and my lip pierced with a bar/stud. The belly button was more irritating then the lip because a hoop piercing requires the piercer to clamp it shut and fiddle around with a new pierced part instead of just screwing a ball on. I recommend any new piercings to be with a bar/stud as it is quicker and less irritating. Put it this way, I'm going for a 2nd lip piercing and not another belly button piercing ;)
