You would need to have a "modded" console a.k.a "chipped" These chips can be expensive when consoles first come out, but being that the PS2 has been out for awhile you can probably find them cheap. Modding or chipping a console requires you to open up said console which voids the warranty. Many different chips are available, some you have to solder others are solder less.

actually, the new ps3's can still play movies DVD or blu ray, and ps1 games are still compatible.
Nope, unfortunately you cannot. You CAN however play DVD's in a blu-ray player.
A Blu-Ray player is capable of playing normal DVD's - even upconverting to make a better picture. However, a standard DVD player cannot play Blu-Ray DVD's.
