Generally speaking, no. You can only fire the caliber for which the gun is chambered.
There are some exceptions, but not many.
It's the caliber of the cartridge it fires.
While the .270 is a little light for kudu,it can still be used. Here in the United States the .270 has killed alot of elk and the greater kudu is much the same size. If it were me I would load the 150gr. nosler partition,or a barnes 150gr triple shock for the game in question. The most important thing in any hunting situation is the ability to put the bullet in the right spot under hunting conditions. If you shoot your 270 accurately then it is better to shoot that then a bigger caliber that you do not shoot as good.
Definitely Not !!
assuming you are talking calibers and not models the difference between a .270 caliber and a .280 caliber rifle is .1 inches in combustion chamber diameter.both cartridges are based on the 30-06 goverment case. The .270 winchester is necked down and accepts a bullet of .277in.diameter.The 280 remington cartridge is also necked down from the 30-06 goverment case and fires a bullet diameter of .284in. The basic differencebetween both cartridges amounts to the bullet diameter difference of .007in.In other words both cartridges are essentially the same.
The number .270 is the caliber that a rifle is chambered in.It is number applied to the .270 Winchester caliber. This fires a .277 cal.bullet and the case of the cartridge is made by necking down the 30-06 case to except a bullet of .277 cal. These bullet weights range from 110gr. thru 160grs.the most popular is a weight of 130grs.
It can only safely accept the 270 Weatherby Magnum if that is what it is chambered for. If you want to chamber it in some other caliber than get a new rifle. Just because two bullets have the same diameter bullet (270 or any other caliber) does not make it safe to fire it in your gun.
Good rifle, good caliber for most uses. Did you have a specific question?
A bullet fired from a .270 can travel about 5 miles. It is accurate to about 900 yards.
Uses .277 bullets
270
A 270 Weathery will shoot any standard 270 bullet. However a Weatehrby Magnum will not. The Weatheby Magnum is like a Winchester Magnum which is a shorter and fatter cartridge.
The .270 has MUCH more energy than the 30-30.
