Depends on what you are making. Regular cake, no problem. Cheese cake is going to be. There is usually a reason why the recipe calls for a spring form pan. Using parchment paper in the bottom will work for a lot of recipes, you will just have to decide if it will for this one.

A springform is a cake pan, it just makes it easier to take out. Grease and flour as you would a regular pan.

It's your kitchen, you can cook it in an old boot if you want.

However, the results probably won't be as good as if you had used the proper pan.

Why should i use a spring form pan when making a cheese cake?

Cheesecake is not the kind of cake that is 'turned out' of the cake pans as a regular cake is. If it were baked in regular cake pans, it wouldn't turn out of the pan, and would be very difficult to cut and serve with the sides of the regular cake pan still in place. But by baking it in a springform pan, you just remove the side of the pan once the cheesecake is cool, then cut and serve on the bottom of the springform pan.

What to look when choosing a springform pan?

Once you have decided on a price that will work for you (generally between $10 and and $30), decide what you will be making most. You will have to choose how large you want your pan and what material to choose. Stainless steel heats up nicely, but can often prove sticky, while nonstick pans may not provide the heat you're looking for. As for size, do you tend to bake treats that are closer to 8" around or 12"? Figuring our the answers to these questions will make buying a springform pan a cinch.

Is a springform pan and a torte pan the same thing?

A springform pan has a flat bottom that is surrounded by a metal collar that has a spring clasp that fastens the sides around the bottom. The batter or pastry is poured into (or set down into) the pan. Once the cake or cheese cake or torte is baked and slightly cooled, loosen the edges with a flat knife and then unclasp the spring to remove the collar. This leave the pastry or cake sides free without having to invert the cake onto another plate bottom. In this way delicate cakes or heavy pastry can be baked without breaking by unmolding.

Can you use a cheesecake spring pan to make a regular cake?

You would have difficulty removing it from the pan without breaking it. If you don't have a spring form pan try using a Swiss roll or lamington tray and make the cheesecake as a slice. If you line the tray with baking paper it should be easy to remove without breaking.
