In Caminos from 1978 to 1987 engine swap is piece of cake.
All the parts in brakes and suspension are the same. Only engine size varies.
In case you have air condition, you probably have to change your front coil springs - there is 2 different strengths between v6 and v8 with air cond.

It depends on which v6 you have. If it is a 4.3 v6, then it is an easy swap. If it is a 3.8 v6 then the trans bolt patter will be buick style and won't fit unless you are lucky enought to have a BOP patterned bell housing. Also the v6 trans won't hold up to a v8. They have less clutches in the low gear and 3rd gear positions. Hope this helps.
The Chevrolet small block 400 will bolt in place of the 305 but be sure to use a 400 flywheel or flex plate. Do not use the 305 flywheel or flex plate on the 400.
