I am a pharmacist and have seen the two used together...Cymbalta is a SNRI and can sometimes cause insomnia (usually used once daily). Prescribers may add trazodone once nightly and it is helpful for this side effect caused by Cymbalta.

∙ 14y agotrazodone and ambien aren't generally recommended to take together. Trazodone causes drowsiness and is often used as a sleeping pill though it's really an anti-anxiety medication. If your perscribing doctor is aware of your medications he may have a reason for it but to be sure call him.

∙ 12y agoI would like to know myself. my 78 year old mother was on trazodone taking 100 mgs and still can't sleep. She is so exhausted and tired during the day and has no energy and is very weak. I called the doctor and he said he would prescribe ambien as well. Is that safe to take together. what are the side effects.
