Morphine is an opiate painkiller. Ativan (lorazepam) is a benzodiazepine (a group of sedatives such as Ativan, Valium, Xanax). Since morphine also has sedative properties, taking the two drugs in combination could, in fact, be dangerous. It all depends on dosage, and the individual's sensitivity to the two drugs. If you are prescribed both drugs by a doctor, the doctor theoretically should know what he/she is doing, and it should be ok to take these two medications simultaneously. If you notice extreme tiredness, difficulty breathing, or any other side effects you should probably have a chat with the doc. If you are taking one or both of these drugs recreationally, it would probably be best to do them seperately. It is not uncommon for recreational users to die from an opiate/benzodiazepine combination.
