You shouldn't since if a rock hits it, or you hit a dip and it cracks, you will be getting big chunks of debris into your engine which will kill it from the inside.

If that doesn't bother you (and it should), the next few things to worry about are a) can you get a big enough diameter pipe, and b) how to mount the pipe so it stays in place c) can you adapt any necessary vacuum hoses or sensor holes to it.

Which is best to buy a cold air intake or air intake for Honda Civic EX 2003?

If there are a lot of deep puddles or it floods a lot, get a short ram intake since you can not use your cold air intake in those conditions (even with a air bypass valve). Alternately, you can get a K&N Typhoon intake that can convert between cold air and short ram lengths. If flooding is never a concern, or you don't mind constantly switching back and forth to get the most power in ideal conditions, then get a cold air.

What is the purpose of a cold air intake?

How to install velocity cold air intake?

Short answer... it depends!based on if you're using a kit or doing it yourself. if doing it yourself you need so kind of air scoop, such as a bonnet scoop. you then need to use PVC piping or hosing to direct the cold 'outside' air to your intake manifold.Best idea is to mount a bonnet scoop. form a fiberglass mould that takes all the scooped air to a pod filter. then use PVC hosing to connect the pod filter to the intake manifold and you're done. how you do that exactly will depend on your car and engine.if you don't want a bonnet scoop you could just do a regular cold air intake system and relocate the pod filter to inside the guard underneath your headlight. then it'll get colder outside air without cutting a hold in your bonnet however you wont get the added advantage of air being forced down the bonnet scoop when you're driving at speed. this will still raise horsepower but you wont get the added advantage of the extra air being rammed down the scoop when you're driving at speed.

Can i install a Cold air int inake Ford Ranger?

You can install an aftermarket unit but technically most draw HOT air from UNDER the hood in the engine compartment and ARE NOT a true cold air intake. Modify the factory airbox if you like and allow it to draw COLD air from behind the front grill (as it is designed). Your truck will perform just as well and if you do the work yourself, you save money. Enlarging the intake tube to 3" PVC works rather well as a cold air intake (behind the headlight on some model years). Use a 3" PVC threaded coupling on the outside of the filter box and the 3" flanged threaded adapter on the inside to hold it. If after cutting there are small gaps, just seal um up with silicone sealer or what have you. This is a sizable increase from the factory intake tube. You'll just need to make a larger hole in the front or side of the filter box and can even reinstall the water-guard if you wish when you're done. Some owners have even drilled holes thru the bottom of the box in thru the top of the fender into the fender well and located PVC piping there to assure a true COLD air intake. When turned down and towards the back of the truck it is less prone to suck in any water during a rain plus it is beside the tire in the fender well....not behind or in front of it. You can get a K&H factory replacement filter if you just are looking for a power increase or add it to an air box modification. About $8 for PVC parts.

Can you use PVC pipe for air intake?

As long as you can seal the ends and route it, there isn't a problem using it. It will survive the engine heat. There are rubber connectors available for plumbing that could be used to connect the ends to the filter box and the intake.

Can you plumb your new water heater with PVC and cPVC?

Does replacing you cold air intake change the sound of your car?

if you replace it, it will just sound the same if you upgrade it you will gain about 2-3HP and use more fuel meaning less mileage I HAVE A 2003 TAHOE AND I INSTALLED THE COLD AIR INTAKE AND IT GAVE IT A BETTER SOUND

Cold air intake changes sound?

Generally speaking, if you had a plastic/rubber intake and you switch to an aluminum cold air intake, then yes, you are going to have a different sound of your engine taking in air... it's going to sound a little more Darth Vader-ish. This will be enhanced if you also use a metallic stainless steel filter like Blitz, CP, X3, etc.
