Yes, I have used dextron 3 atf in several broncos power steering. Never had a probem and they act the same.

They typically just use ATF... Dextron III is what we use.

It actually uses ATF in the power steering system. I believe Dextron IID was the spec for '84, but fortunately the newer Dexron formulations are backwards compatible.

steering in the right directionPower steering systems arent all that picky so the generic power steering fluid at the parts store will do check the back for particular applications, and dextron atf will also work.
In cars manufactured before 1980, the specs for ATF and Power Steering Fluid were much the same. Now, the specification between PS fluid and Dexron VI are very different and substituting one for the other can damage the transmission.
