I would not recommend it. Among other things, it will kill the digestive enzymes in your settling tank, could harm your pump to your field and could cause coagulation of fats that could block up your system.

this is not true, lye has been used to maintain septic and cesspool systems for 100+ years...it is an excellent product. To kick start your septic/cesspool system's bacteria action, 6lbs per 500 gallons. Regular maintenance, use 6lbs per 500 gal, yearly.
