Jesus was only on the cross for a period of hours rather than days. He was buried before the beginning of the Sabbath (which many believe was the weekend Sabbath, starting at sunset Friday, but which could also be the start of the Passover Sabbath, which would probably be sunset Wednesday or Thursday). He would have been nailed to the cross at about nine o'clock in the morning, after having been up all night and having undergone scourging which would have caused significant blood loss. He was already weak, as evidenced by the inability to carry his cross.
Six hours alive from 9 AM to 3 PM. At noon the sky turned dark and stayed that way until after 3 PM when Jesus "gave up the ghost" e.g. died.
Jesus was on the cross dead until Joseph of Arimathea went unto Pilate and requested his body. After checking with the centurion that Jesus was indeed dead Pilate gave the body to Joseph. This would be in the evening 6 pm or after.
Jesus was on the cross alive for 6 hours and dead for maybe 3 more, more or less
9 a.m. - "The Third Hour"
Jesus is Crucified on the Cross
Noon - "The Sixth Hour"
Darkness Covers the Land
Mark 15:33 - At the sixth hour darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour. (NLT)
3 p.m. The 9th Hour.
It is Finished
Luke 23:46 - Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." When he had said this, he breathed his last. (NIV)
From the third hour (9AM) to the ninth hour (3 PM), Jesus suffered on the Cross, when He "gave up the ghost," and died. From noon to 3PM there was darkness over the earth (Mark 15:33). At the time of dusk, just before the beginning of the Passover (reckoned at 6PM) the body was removed by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, hurriedly embalmed with spices and place in the Arimathea tomb.
The time passage was about eight to eight and one half hours that Jesus was on the Cross.
Some claim that Jesus Christ was on the Cross for 7 hours and some claim for 9 hours.
However, Muslims believe that Jesus was not crucified at all. They believe that the enemies of Jesus (peace upon him) plotted and planned to crucify Jesus. However, God miraculously saved Jesus and raised him up to Him (to God). God, the all Powerful and the all Capable, put the likeness of Jesus (peace upon him) over another man. The enemies of Jesus (peace upon him) thought that the this other man is Jesus and they took him and crucified him. God has said:
{...They said, "We killed the Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, the messenger of God." They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but the likeness of him was put on another man (and they killed that man...} [Quran, chapter 4, verse 157]
The generally accepted Muslim view is that Jesus is still living in the body in the Heaven and that he will appear just before the Final Day , after the coming of the Mahdi, when the world will be purified of sin and unbelief. There will be a final death before the final Resurrection
Jesus was on the cross for six hours before He died, and would have been taken down soon after in order for burial to be completed prior to sunset which marked the start of the Jewish Sabbath.
Although it is not noted in hours and minutes the events were:
Arrest in the dark-someone had to point out Jesus who knew him.
Tried at first light- kangaroo court.
Transferred to Roman judge-
Transferred back to Hebrew judge-
Paraded through the streets-
Midday the skies went black-
Body taken down before dark- to avoid Sabbath desecration.
It appears that seven hours is a good approximation for Jesus on the cross.
The Bible is not specific. The Gospel of Luke informs us that Jesus died at the ninth hour (3pm), but nowher does it say at what time He was hoisted up. Given the events of the morning and the time taken to stagger up to the place, it would not have been too early. Luke records that the sky went dark from the sixth hour until the ninth hour when He died, so I would suggest between three and six hours. This was an unusually short time - some took days to die, and the Jews did not want the corpses hanging on the Sabbath, the asked the Romans to break the prisoners' legs to speed things up. Jesus was already dead by then...
Jesus was on the cross from morning to say 12or 2 in the noon.
Jesus was on the cross for 6 hours
6 hrs(hours)
It is believed that Jesus spoke seven phrases while he was on the cross. These phrases are known as the "Seven Last Words of Jesus." They include "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do" and "Father, into your hands, I commend my spirit."
nobody knows how many times jesus fell during the station of the cross
The third station of the cross is Jesus falls for the first time.
Do you mean who were the men beside Jesus on the cross, or the men to put Jesus on the cross
The cross is the symbol of Jesus Christ who was crucified on a cross and to many Christians it stands for eternal life because Jesus died on the cross but rose again 3 days later.
Many, many, Christians do not display Jesus on the cross because He has paid the price for sin and is alive and well in heaven. Many churches have an empty cross on the wall usually behind the preachers pulpit. Jesus Christ has died, been resurrected and is working on the Chrtistians behalf. There is no need for Him to be on the cross.
