well in the colonial days a man named Vitus Bering, finder of Alaska, was trying to find a formal settlement for the Russians. i am saying Russians because it was Russians who first had the land of Alaska. the a few years later somewhere in the 1900s a man named Seward bought Alaska using the nations money, the nation is the US. he bought it for 7.2 million dollars. many people were upset that he used the nations money but then people found gold and oil there. then people started building colonies and villages there since people needed food when the were mining for gold or strucking oil. and that is how Alaska became what is now called a state. well Alaska became a state in 1959 so it wasn't that long ago. hope this answers some of you questions.
