I don't know who Gatsby is but Tom sings and plays bass for an awesome band.
In The Great Gatsby, Tom and Gatsby do not like each other very much. Tom thinks that Gatsby is a womanizer and illegal bootlegger. Gatsby thinks Tom is an arrogant idiot.

Tom Buchanan and Jay Gatsby are characters in F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby. They are alike due to their wealth, wanting Daisy as their own and hostile feelings towards each other. They are different due to Tom being a strong athlete, shallow and careless in wanting Daisy as property, and Gatsby being passionate, kind, loyal and wanting Daisy to love her.

Both Tom and Gatsby are idealists. Jay Gatsby has created and ideal image of himself, daisy and their potential life together. Tom idealizes himself as a man of honor. Both Tom and Gatsby view Daisy as an object.

This makes them different because it causes Tom to see himself as an honorable man through his racism, brutish strength and money. Gatsby sees himself as honorable due to his rise from nothing to wealth.
