With a spreadsheet you have the ability to:

Organize

Add and use mathematical formulas

Describe/explain in plain words

Add numbers (of course)

Do complex calculations with most any variation of the above.

A spreadsheet can be used in order to keep a bookinglist of any hotel.

It can be used as a diary.

It has many uses apart from its most obvious uses as in doing math based on input.
