At very high voltages, corona becomes an issue, such as in high power transmission. In effect, if there are any "sharp points", square corners, etc., electrons will tend to build up and this build up begins to damage the structure. this is why in very high voltage subs, you will see rings used instead of bolts or hooks (easiest to see at the top of poles).
