Yes, people have died from being shot with blank cartridges. While blanks do not contain a metal bullet, they send a high pressure jet of gas out of the barrel- and sometimes the paper wadding used to hold the powder in the cartridge. Blanks are NOT cap pistols, and a blank firing gun should not be treated as a toy.
