Gorillas do not punch because this is human trait only that has been applied to gorillas in Hollywood movies such as Planet of the Apes. Gorillas pound their chests and grab and throw things or charge as a means of defense.

They're certainly strong enough to be able to, but in nature they're generally peaceful and shy despite their appearence.

It's probably happened somewhere, but in parks and zoos far more people have been hurt by Chimps than by Gorillas.
Gorillas do not kill people except for in extreme situations. A gorilla will fight fiercely if a human enters their territory. The only time I know of a gorilla killing a human was at an European zoo where a gorilla attacked his zookeeper because he got married. Weird right? From what I read it seemed that the gorilla developed feelings for his zookeeper and when he introduced his wife to the gorilla the gorilla started to act upset. This anger festered and was increased at the sight of the wife until he one day attacked his zookeeper, who when found was missing an eyeball and chunks of his face.
