The split-T formation is an offshoot of the T formation and has many, many variations that have been devised over the years. The first split-T was developed by Don Faurot, coach of the University of Missouri in the early 1940s. He modified the T formation by doubling the gap between the offensive lineman and replacing one of the tight ends with a wide receiver. The T Formation:
