it is mostly water with many dissolved solute such as: nutrient, gases, hormones and wastes. Most plasma protein are produced by the liver. Albumin which is 60% of plasma protein serves as blood buffer to plasma osmotic pressure( the pressure that helps to keep water in the bloodstream). Another function of is plasma distribute heat.

This membrane is called the fluid mosaic model as it is a mixture of phospholipids, cholesterol, proteins and carbohydrates.
Most of the membrane is composed of phospholipidmolecules. These allow the membrane to be rather fluid.
Embedded in this membrane are proteins which give some structure to the membrane. The 3rd components are proteins or glycolipids.
The proteins sort of float on the surface of the membrane like islands in the sea.
Cholesterol is also found in the membrane. It prevents lower temperatures from inhibiting the fluidity of the membrane and prevents higher temperatures from increasing fluidity.
The carbohydrates that are in plasma membranes are bound either to proteins or to the lipids. They form sites on the surface that allow the cells to recognize each other. This is important because it all tells the immune system to determine whether a cell is foreign (non-self) or are body cells (self).

What is the structure and the function of the plasma membrane?

It has selective permeability (allows it to control what comes in and out of the cell) and it isolates the cytoplasm.

Define the structure and function of the cell membrane plasma membrane?

The cell membrane consists of a lipid bilayer which is actually a phospholipid. Cell membranes are semipermiable and they regulate what enters and leaves the cell.

What are the specialized parts of the phospholipid bilayer and how do their structure's relate to the structure of the plasma membrane?

What are the functions of the plasma membrane in Eukaryotes?

Plasma membrane gives structure to the cell, serve as boundary. It allows the selective passage of molecules across the cell (semi permeable). Starts the signalling event from the receptors it posses on the membrane surface when there is a stimuli bind to it.

Which structure regulates passage of molecules into and out of cells?

The cell membrane is a membrane separating the inside of the cell from the outside environment. This structure is also known as the plasma membrane or the cytoplasmic membrane.

Another name for plasma membrane?

A cell membrane is also known as a plasma membrane or cytoplasmic membrane. The cell membrane separates the interior of a cell from its outside environment. The main function of a cell membrane is to protect the cell from its surroundings.

This structure is the outermost boundary of the cell and is semipermeable?

Plasma membrane or cell membrane
