The long- term effects of competition on populations of two different species competing for the same resources would be a decrease in the weaker population. Both populations might also become extinct if the resource runs out.
An example is " When there are no predators around, mussels take over all of the space on rocks in the surf zone."

Usually neither species will be close to a equilibrium. Their numbers will vary and depend on the numbers of the competing species, so when there's many of one species, usually that means that there's less food for the other and their numbers will go down. It can change, though.
Or one species will simply outcompete another and there will only be the population of one species, the other being driven into local extinction.
The long-term effect is that the species will evolve to occupy separate niches.

They can affect the chemical makeup of the water, availability of resources, and even alter the food web. Invasive species impact other species more directly through competition for resources. Because invasive species evolved with other competitors and native species evolved in the absence of invasive species they lack the ability to compete with invasive species. They are costly to society in many ways through both, direct management, and decreased production. The annual estimated cost in the United States of invasive species control is about 120 billion dollars per year. It is estimated that the global cost of invasive species management is equal to five percent of the global economy.
Direct Development vs Indirect Development.
'Competition', in the context of natural selection, doesn't have to mean actual conflict, or direct competition. It refers only to the average number of fertile offspringproduced by diverse and differing variants. Some variants will manage to produce a higher average number of fertile offspring than others. In that sense, they are competing.
Biotic things are those things that live in an animal's habitat. They include plants and other animals, of all species. One species survival is a direct result of the biotic and abiotic factors in its environment.
Since food and other resources are limited, the members of a species must compete with each other to survive. Competition does not always involve direct physical fights between members of a species. Instead, competition is usually indirect.

In a temperate grassland there are several types of competition which may occur between different organisms. These include competition for resources such as light soil nutrients and water; competition for space; and competition for mates. Competition for Resources - Organisms living in a temperate grassland must compete for resources such as light soil nutrients and water. This competition can lead to a decrease in the population of certain species if the resources are not replenished or if the competition is too intense. Competition for Space - Plants and animals in a temperate grassland need space to live and reproduce. As the population of certain organisms increases they may begin to outcompete others for space leading to decreased populations of the outcompeted species. Competition for Mates - Species may also compete with one another for mates. This competition can lead to the evolution of specialized features which give one species an advantage over another in attracting mates. In a temperate grassland competition between organisms is a natural part of the ecosystem and can help to shape the populations of different species.
Describe how it is possibly that species in competition for a resource do not have to come in direct contact with one another
This is an example of survival of the fittest.

direct competition, indirect competition and budget competition
Direct competition is a company that offers a product that customers may choose over your product. Indirect competition is a company that offers a substitute good.
Predators can affect population size through increased or decreased predation events. Direct and indirect competition between members of the same species can limit population size.
they cannot be brought back they cannot be brought back
They are not in direct competition-their goals are different
