The yellow star represented that she was a Jew. So it was just like saying she was different and to be ignored and follow all the rules that worked against Jews. Jews were required to wear the yellow star on the left breast of their outer garment at all times they were outdoors, and such minor things as slipping off their jacket because it was a very warm day would get them arrested and deported. Just one more of the myriad of things the Nazis came up with in their never-ending effort to dehumanize the Jews.

Yes, during the Holocaust, Jews in some regions were required to wear a yellow star of David on their clothing as a means of identification. Anne Frank wrote about this in her diary as it was one of the many oppressive measures imposed by the Nazis.

All Jews got a yellow star that said 'Jew' on it. This system was used so the Nazis could easily pick them out and make sure they were following all their rules.
