Events like World War 2 and other events since then have rocked it and some people have lost their Christian faith and others have used these issues as a way of trying to knock Christianity, but it is still strong.
No. it is a strange, but wonderful thing in Christianity that persecution, troubles, wars, ETC brings out the best and strongest faith in Christians. The church actually grows in persons through troubles as troubles bring out a deep need that only Jesus Christ can fill. Almost all people of the world have a sense of a higher Authority deep in their heart and of course that Person is God. Unfortunately many of these people are overcome by the lures of this sinful world and never find this peace of God. War is a terrible thing but by it many are brought to the Kingdom of God.
