Still under investigation by Texas Department of Public Safety. David Wilkerson died in a car wreck in Cuney, Texas on April 27, 2011 however circumstances of the wreck leave only five possibilities. Wilkerson either steered his car or drifted into the path of an oncoming tractor trailer. He was not wearing a seatbelt and his blog posts, especially that of the day of his death showed a man despondent and even questioning his faith. First it is possible that he experienced a medical emergency, if so the death is a tragedy. His car could have experienced a casualty that resulted in Wilkerson losing control. However the car was a late model Lexus and this would be improbable though possible, if this was the case his death was a tragedy. It is possible that he was distracted or inattentive and accidentally crossed into the path of the oncoming truck, if this is the case his death is a tragedy but was certainly preventable. He was being treated for Cancer it is possible that medications that he was taking caused him to fall asleep at the wheel. Again a tragedy. Finally the one that most people don't want to contemplate is that he intentionally steered into the oncoming tractor trailer. Unfortunately this could be the case. No seat belt, the accident occurred on a straight two lane US Highway as he crossed a bridge and his writings of the previous three months indicated that he was chronically depressed, questioned his faith, talked often about unanswered prayers and doubts about his own faith to the point of even talking about despairing of life. Thus while we don't want to think about this, especially because Wilkerson wrote a book on suicide and called it "an unpardonable sin" and because he is viewed as one of the most genuine ministers and evangelists of his era. The fact is the possibility of suicide cannot be discounted simply because we admire him.
