Yes. About 6 months after the death of his wife, the actress Carole Lombard, in January 1942, Gable enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. The movie studio MGM and the Army arranged for Gable to be assigned to make training films for the Army and morale-improving movies for the public, including spending a year in England with the 8th Air Force, and flying 5 combat missions as gunner-observer in B-17 Flying Fortress bombers. After two other crew members aboard his bomber were killed, MGM started lobbying for Gable to be removed from combat, because of his status as a movie star.

Gable was discharged from the Army as Major in July, 1944.

Military service by movie stars was quite common during WWII. Actor Jimmy Stewart was actually a bomber pilot, retiring from the Air Force as General.
