∙ 14y agoNo. Disney has created very little that is truly "new"; they are masters at turning old tragic tales into stories with happy endings. In the case of The Little Mermaid, Disney "disnified" a tragedy about a mermaid who wanted to become human. She never made it, and died sitting on a rock in the harbor watching the man she loved from afar. There's even a bronze statue of the Little Mermaid in the harbor of Copenhaven.
