FDR and the New Deal helped America. He helped America rejuvenate itself and helped to raise the country's self esteem. This lead to more people being to buy back their house which they had previously sold because they were not able to pay the mortgages, and Henry Hoovers ideas of rugged individualism were ignored. FDR saved the country!! The other theory is... FDR gathered congress soon after his inauguration in 1933 while the great depression was already underway to create the new deal. These new deal measures muddled around in obscurity for over half a decade and then the government spending in World War 2 was actually what stimulated job growth, through manufacturing obviously, and thus stimulated the economy. The great depression ended in 1941.

The problem the question presents is what is the definition of "SAVE"? A comparison of the unemployment rate in 1933 to 1941 might provide an answer. With that said, yes, as many people have commented, WW2 took the USA out of the depression.
