Harry has private lessons with Dumbledore who tells him that Voldemort has "Horcruxes" which means he has split his soul and can't die unless all his bits of soul are destroyed. This means Harry has to go and get all the bits of soul and destroy them before he can kill Voldemort. Dumbledore tells Harry that he thinks he has found the place where Voldemort has hidden a horcrux so they go to destroy it and Dumbledore has to drink a potion which weakens him. When they head back towards Hogwarts they see the Dark Mark and find it under attack. Draco Malfoy let the death eaters in by the vanishing cabinet. They find Dumbledore in the tower who uses his last few second to immobilize Harry who is invisible under his cloak. Draco then disarms Dumbledore and tries to kill him but Dumbledore concinces him not to, so instead Severus Snape kills him. After a small battle Harry opens the locket and sees the Horcrux is a fake. The real one has been taken and the note inside says R.A.B discovered his secret and was going to destroy the locket. The last scene is Dumbledore's funeral where Harry breaks up with Ginny and decides he cannot return to Hogwarts next year and must instead find and destroy all the Horcruxes. Ron and Hermione decide they are going with him.

No, Harry Potter did not die in Half-Blood Prince, but another major character did.
Arogog is Hagrid's pet. It is a giant spider that was blamed for terrorizing Hogwarts School 50 years earlier. In order to save Arogog's life, Hagrid released the spider into the forbidden forest and later found him a mate. Hagrid still visits Arogog and loves him dearly. Arogog is introduced in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and makes a major plot twist in Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince.
