In the book The Hunger Games fast friends and allies Katniss and Rue had an unbreakable trust. Katniss trusted Rue because she helped her land the beehive on the Career Tributes. Also, Katniss knew that Rue could help her because she had the knowledge of plants, was nimble, and reminded her of her small sister Primrose.
***Also, Rue saw Katniss' mockingjay pin. She said that right from the start, this was how she knew she could trust Katniss.

∙ 14y agoWell when in a tree, being camped out by the careers, their is a bad kind of wasp nest right by Katniss's head so Rue shows her and then Katniss comes up with a plan to get the wasps to attack the careers (and Peeta) to help both of them so they become allies.

How does Katniss know something is wrong when she is looking for Rue?
Before going to blow up the food, Katniss and Rue came up with signals for each other. The signals were to tell each other that they were okay, and that they would be back soon. Rue was supposed to signal once she had lit every fire, and Katniss was supposed to signal once she had blown up the food. Katniss blew up the food and she triumphantly signaled Rue. But when she signaled, Rue did not signal back. Rue was supposed to be done her duty before Katniss. When Rue did not signal back, that was the point when Katniss knew something was wrong. Katniss tried to signal while looking for Rue in the woods, but there was no reply. Katniss found one unlit fire, and then she really knew soemthing was wrong. Eventually Rue screamed her name. Katniss found her caught in a netting trap beside one of the fires she was supposed to light. Katniss freed her, and they were getting ready to leave. But it was too late. Marvel, one of the Career tributes, speared Rue through the stomach. Katniss killed Marvel, then sang to Rue until she died. But the point when Katniss knew something was up, was when she saw one of the fires unlit, and when Rue wasn't replying to her signal.

team work and alliances katniss & rue: both of them were hiding in trees above the careers tributes. rue showed katniss a nest of genetically enhanced wasps/ bees known as tracker jackers. she used this to drop on the careers to eliminate them, since she was stuck in the tree and they were waiting to kill her. she ends up killing 2 careers in return rue and katniss start an alliance. katniss shows her how to gather food, they share a sleeping bag, protect one another, get to know each other as friends. rue reminds katniss of her little sister prim. small, innocence and too young to be at the hunger games. katniss took care of rue. when rue is killed katniss sings to her and covers her in flowers. singing is rue's fave and flowers as a sign of respect. thresh and katniss- he spared her life when he found out rue was killed and katniss killed the tribute who killed her. she also told thresh she sang to rue just be fore dying and she covered her with flowers. katniss & peeta- when she is almost caught by cato and other career tributes peeta stays behind to fight him and katniss is able to get away. he saves her life. katniss saves peeta's life later on when he's badly injured from cato. she takes care of him by feeding, mending wounds, gathering roots to eat and going to the feast to for the one item which will save his life. they show compassion by getting to know each other, saving one another and working together.
