Almost certainly, as she lived in some very harsh conditions, although she was physically very strong. She never referred to any everyday illnesses and only recorded the scarlet fever, malaria, diptheria, and morning sickness she suffered.
In the book On the Banks of Plum Creek, Laura was walking across the little board bridge over Plum Creek. The creek was extra full of water at the time, so it was rushing along very fast. Laura thought the creek sounded happy and joyful, and thought it might be nice to be in the water, so she held on to the board and got in. But too late, she realized just how fast and strong the water was moving. She got really scared because the water pulled at her so hard that she was hanging on for dear life. At one point the force of the water was pressing her chin hard against the board. She barely got out and could have easily drowned.
