I'm not 100% sure that he did but I play hockey and have for 25 years and if u watch the movie slap shot, his skating is excellent, therefore the only way he could skate that well would be years upon years of practice. My answer would be yes just from watching slap shot and seeing how he skates and handles the puck. You can't learn those skills overnight. Hockey is a complex sport.

The hit movie "Slap Shot" was loosely based on the Johnstown Jets (Charlestown Chiefs), of the North American Hockey League. In the move, the Chiefs win the championship of what is called the Federal League, and are presented with the Lockhart Cup, which was in reality, representative of the North American Hockey League championship. To this day, it sits in the basement recreation room of Danny Belisle, where it has become a flower pot. Danny was a minor pro hockey player from 1956 to 1971, and a coach from 1972 to 1997, including coaching in the NHL, with the Washington Capitals and Detroit Red Wings. He also coached the Syracuse Blazers, at the time of the filming of Slap Shot, for two seasons (1975-76; 1976-77), and was a player in the movie for the Chiefs rivals, the Syracuse Bulldogs. His son, Dan Belisle jr., was the stick boy for the Bulldogs, in the movie.
