Good points- A presidents Job is to represent the people that elected him. Jackson did that very well.- Jackson always stood up for what he believed in regardless of the circumstances.- Jackson was accused of being racist but proved otherwise. He adopted an indian baby as his son. Many indians and blacks joined jacksons campaigns against the british or hostile Indian tribes. While building the fortifications during the war of 1812 white soldiers were reprimanded for refusing to work side by side with blacks.- Jackson was an outstanding military leader. He successfully lead a multi racial army consisting of whites, blacks,Indians, french and even pirates repelling the british invasion of new Orleans. His leadership inspired this army to decimate the most powerful army in the world with a smaller force.- Jackson closed the 2nd Bank of the united states. Through fraud and corruption the bank attempted to control elections and profit off the us economy .(unfortunately it was replaced by the federal reserve system in the early 1900's). This created many political enemies for jackson.- Jackson remains the only president to completely pay off the national debtBad points- Andrew Jackson did own slaves. So did George Washington, John Adams,Thomas Jefferson,James Madison, and many other presidents.- He sometimes let his temper get the best of him. Dueling anyone who insulted his or his wife's honor. Jackson lived in pain the later 1/2 of his life from dueling injuries and bullets remaining in his body- Jackson passed the Indian removal act. Unfortunately its whats the majority of america wanted. Im not trying to justify the tragedy of the trail of tears, But one must consider the mindset of many Americans at the time. During the war of 1812 the british incited and bribed many indian tribes to raid settlers on the frontiers.August 30, 1813: Creek Indians attack Fort Mims in what is now Baldwin County, killing nearly 250 settlers gathered there for protection. The attack caused fear and hysteria among frontier settlers, who quickly raised militia companies to fight the Indians in the Creek War of 1813-1814.The soldiers in charge of the moving various tribes were mainly inexperienced militia who paid little attention to the needs of the people they were charged with moving. The conditions were horrible, unsanitary, and inexcusable.- He stole another man's wife, even though they were getting a divorce, she was still legally married.- A little misunderstanding at a horse race ended in a duel between Andrew Jackson and a friend.-Forced out any members of cabinet who didn't execute his commands.
