No. As of 01/2017... Steven Burns is not dead.
He left the show to pursue a musical career because in his words... after 100 shows the role "was beginning to chafe". Plus he said he was losing his hair & didn't want to go bald on a kids' show.
Burns started a band, Steve Burns and the Struggle, and completed his second album, Deep Sea Recovery Efforts, which was released in 2009. His first album was called Songs for Dustmites.
