George Rogers Clark did not capture Fort Pitt. During the Siege of Fort Pitt, the Cree tried to capture it, but the British prevailed.

He was a Patriot, and in some way he helped the Patriots win the Revolutionary War. On February 25, 1779, the British surrendered Fort Sackville in the Illinois territory to Georg Rogers Clark and his troops. The reinforced the colonial claims to the frontier lands, which nearly doubled the size of the colonial territory according to the National Parks Service George Rogers Clark site. Clark led an army of volunteer troops from Virginia to fight the British on the Western Frontier. The British held a former French Fort (Fort Sackville), which Clark and his men attacked & over-ran. It was a significant battle, as Clark's troops were outnumbered 4 to 1. Fort Sackville stood on the present day site of Vincennes, Indiana.

George Rogers Clark captured Ft. Sackville and the Vincennes. Richard Henry Lee was a sub-commander under George Rogers Clark. It was Clark who actually won the battle of Vincennes after capturing Ft Sackville. Clark, through ingenious tactics that made it appear as though there were more American troops in Vincennes than what actually remained of his force, was able to keep the fort and the town surrounding it against overwhelming odds.
