In Thor's movie, Odin is portrayed as the Allfather and ruler of Asgard, and also Thor's father. He is a powerful and wise deity who guides Thor and his fellow Asgardians in their roles as protectors of the Nine Realms. Odin is played by actor Anthony Hopkins.

Long answer: Loki is the blood brother of Thor's father, Odin. Thor and his uncle often did travel together as friends. However, after Loki insulted all the gods and was held responsible for the death of Odin's son Baldr -- of whom all the gods loved -- everyone then hated Loki. Thor and the other gods chased down and captured Loki, then bound him to three rocks with the guts of his own son, where a venomous snake drips poison onto his face until Ragnarok.
