How was the world supposed to end in 2000?

Well yes and no. The theory goes as followed:

The switch from going from 1999 to 2000 was feared to cause computers to crash for the simple reason that computers when storing information in the older systems refer to there date's as only to digits Ex. 1999 = 99 1958=58. the switch to 2000 would cause these computers to frees up and completely shut down witch would have caused massive amounts of important information to get lost.

People thought the world would end in 2000 because all the numbers on the computer would not be used to all the zeros instead of 9's and 1's and all that, so they thought that all the power would just turn off in the world, but obviously that did not happen :)

They thought the 2000 year anniversary of the birth of Christ would be a likely time for His return. But had they read their bible they would have seen that all of the events that must happen before His return have not happened yet they would have saved themselves a lot of worry.

There was also the Y2K scare, the theory being that every computer on earth would crash, throwing the world into total confusion. That didn't happen either.
