They were interested in it but they didn't invent it. People have been trying to explain how things in the world work for a very long time. Some of the answers were incorrect. Some thought that the Earth had to be flat or that the Earth is the center of the solar system. Early on, they were interested in how to grow better crops and raise better livestock an how to best tan hides and make clothing. When there was more time, they could begin to ask why does this work that way or this way.
