Yes, it really did. Many survivors claimed this, and many of them denied it. This was debated for decades, until oceanographer Dr. Robert Ballard located the wreck in the summer of 1985. The hull now lies in two large sections, a half-mile apart from each other, in over 12,000 feet of water at the bottom of the North Atlantic. It really did split during the sinking.
As you probably know, Titanic struck an iceberg, ripping a big hole in the right side of the ship. This caused the first four "water tight" compartments to fill with water, causing the ship to lean forward. The back of the ship was heavy, as you can guess, and it was like snapping a twig in half.
