I am certainly ont a nutritionist, but I will give you my advice anyways. Nine year olds are still children, and should beeating child-size portions still. My first advice would be CUT THE PORTIONS. If you want to see a normal size kids portion, to make it easy, take a look at a frozen meal like "Kids Cuisine". That is approximately the AMOUNT of food a child should eat in a meal. Secondly, try and cut out fast food. Its unhealthy, especially for children. Try different things out (not sure if this is the parent asking or 9 year old) but make the "dieting" fun; let the child go to the store with you and pick out a few things they want, from YOUR choices and those will be what they eat that week. Deli meats: turkey and low sodium ham (NO cheese). Buy snack packs to limit porion control on snacks (100 calorie acks are a great option). Switch to pretzels, animal crackers, sugar free Hot Chocolate, Italian ices, yogurts, jello etc. for snacks. WHEAT bread (fills them up longer), and NO peanut butter. I have alot more knowledge, not sure i fyou wanted tips or n actual diet plan, post a follow up if you want more specifics.
Get the proper diet from the child's pediatrician. Some diets are not good for children because they lack the nutrients children need to keep them healthier (or make them healthier). You may be referred to a dietitian or nutritionist.
The help of caregivers and doctors is an absolute must. A 9 year old can indeed lose weight, but another approach for a growing child is to plan to gain weight more slowly. This way your body can stay healthy and you can approach an ideal weight over time, which is generally a healthier way to do it. Talk with your caregivers and doctors and you can develop a good plan.

And, you’re probably tired of “trying”. Like, seriously, losing weight and keeping it off shouldn’t be so freaking hard right?

It usually depends on his/her weight, currently. My advice is to just watch what you eat and go out for sports (daily exercise).

Omega is a letter in the Greek alphabet. Most people do not study Greek at the age of 8. Possibly you are referring to omega-3 fatty acids. Since these are a beneficial part of the human diet, an 8 year old can eat plenty of those, have no fear. Chow down.
