there is a slight difference, white pointer sharks have white on there bellies so when they are on top of an enemy and they look up all they see is whiteness. great white shark has whitish grey but they don't use it for the same reason. also white pointer sharks put up their dorsal fin and their tail fin (but the tail slightly shorter than the dorsal) but the great white shark only puts up its dorsal fin.

They are both sharks, but the reason the Great White sharks are so popular is because they have the most attacks on humans. Not to mention their humongous teeth that can get up two 2.5 inches long, mega jaws, and their large, muscular body structure. While the normal shark/sharks that are not the White shark are predators of fish, the great white shark is a predator of LARGE fish. The Great White also has more power and does more damage.
