To close a document is to entirely shut it down and to retrieve it you would have to start a fresh by searching for it in
the location in which its saved since it does not appear on your task bar whereas to exit a document is to temporarily leave the document but it can, however, be seen on your task bar.

∙ 14y agoClose will close a file, but leave the application open. Exit will close the file and also exit the application. So if you are using something like Excel and have a file open and then choose Close, the file will close, but Excel will still be running and you could open another file or work on ones that were still open. If you choose Exit, all files will be closed, and the application will stop completely. When closing or exiting, you will be given a chance to save files that you are working on.
